While most Australians know we need to do more physical activity, many of us struggle for inspiration to get started or to think of an activity that fits into daily life.
Great minds across the country are coming up with new and different ideas to get people moving - including innovative ways to get people to walk. Here are three of the brightest ideas we've seen recently.
An online mapping tool in Kingsborough, Tasmania has helped locals and visitors discover over 140 secret pathways and hidden links that were not highlighted in other sources like Google Maps. These links encourage people to use different routes to walk to neighbouring streets, playgrounds, food outlets, bus stops sports grounds and parks.
The Swan River Ramble initiative in Western Australia is an exciting activity for walkers, cyclists and families to enjoy. Colourful path signage and QR codes have been installed to highlight attractions along the Swan River Recreational shared path. Fictional character Eric directs people around the river and is a fun way to engage with children and families.
A walking football team in Sydney is helping older players rediscover the sport they played throughout their lives. The teams, which include former professional players, play three 15- to 20-minute games with breaks in the middle.The main rules are no running, kicking the ball above shoulder height, or tackling.
